JUNIORS

Harvey Norman Week of Golf” – Our club hosted the final round of the J.N.J.G. Foundation Tour program on Friday 8th January.

A 14 years and under event with 86 starters was played on the day. Our club earned overwhelming accolades regarding the course, the 30 strong volunteer support group and the Club house services. The day was a resounding success – The J.N.J.G. tournament manager Dale Hughes, thanked and praised Muirfield GC for all of the support group arranged by the Muirfield Juniors Committee. They should be congratulated for their efforts.

The Juniors club leader board is close at the top end of the list. Harry Sanchez has a lead of 15 points over Luke Armstrong.

Drainage

With the wet prevailing once again, and a recent question that crossed my desk regards the use of agline in the 16th Tee, it maybe time to revisit drainage.

Firstly, drainage is divided into two areas, namely Macro drainage and micro drainage.

Macro drainage is the removal of larger volumes of water, including rivers, creeks, dams and pit & carry. Over the past eight years we have installed an extensive net work of Pit (fibre-crete) & Carry (200mm sewer pipe), which has added to previous pipe works.

Micro drainage including all perforated drainage pipe and sand link remedial work can only connect to an existing Macro system.

The workings of the system are best illustrated around the historically wet 12th green and 13th / 16th Tees. The Macro drainage components are Rifle Range Creek and Main Dam which are both connected to Pit & Carry Pipe network (12 Pits). The Micro drainage is the grid of perforated pipe coupled with the sand link work we are all now familiar with, including green end of 12th , 18th and more recently sand link / perforated agline on 16th tee and front RHS of 1th green.

I believe the drainage works around the above areas have worked exceptionally, the sand link work is particularly exciting in that it can continually be added to.
