Report on Amitee Interclub Visit

The 47th Amitee Interclub Golf visit at Tea Tree Gully in Adelaide was held from Friday 10th March until Sunday 12th March 2017.

There were 170 plus participants in attendance from Muirfield, Amstel Victoria, Nudgee Queensland and Tea Tree Gully. There were 47 attendees from Muirfield which was represented by Bill Ashton as Acting President and Glen Willard as Acting Captain.

Unfortunately Muirfield’s golfing performance was not particularly good and we finished last in both the men and women’s events. The winners were Tea Tree Gully in both cases which is not unexpected as the home club normally wins. We were also not represented in the individual competition winners for both men and women although we did have some good scores but again local knowledge held sway.

However on Sunday in the mixed team events Jenny Hilditch’s team came first, Carol Ashton’s team came second and Bill Ashton’s team came third.

As usual Tea Tree Gully members were very hospitable and the Club provided an excellent menu on all three nights in conjunction with very good entertainment. In this arena Muirfield participants excelled leading the dancing activities until late.

The Ladies day out to Hahndorf, the Beerenberg Strawberry Farm and a German Restaurant was well received.

The Captains and Presidents meeting to review the event and plan for the next event was held and there were a number of issues raised:-

  1. Tea Tree Gully proposed and it was decided to set up the 50th Anniversary Committee for the event at Amstel in 3 years time. My nomination subject to his acceptance was Malcolm McIntosh. Failing this I offered to do it myself.

  2. Tea Tree Gully proposed a change to the trophy structure. The decision was taken to eliminate all the interclub trophies at the 50 year event and in future only have a trophy for the winning team. The individual trophies to remain. One for each overall winner in men and women. There will still be prizes for overall runners up and for club winners and runners up. The 10 year winning trophy will remain.

  3. Tea Tree Gully requested and it was decided that the clubs contribute to new flags ($350) as some have gone missing.

  4. Muirfield proposed and it was agreed that the fees for Club participation be increased from $1700 to $2000 per club and the fee for individual attendees be increased from $195 to $200 and that they continually be edged up to cater for the increased costs of running the event each year.

In summary a very successful event that seems to have gathered a bit of momentum after seeming to be in decline sometime ago. The only dampener on proceedings was the unseasonal torrential rain all day on the last day.
