{"id":8773,"date":"2025-11-07T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T02:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.muirfieldgolf.com.au\/cms\/?p=8773"},"modified":"2025-11-14T15:16:01","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T04:16:01","slug":"out-of-the-rough-friday-24th-october-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.muirfieldgolf.com.au\/cms\/2025\/11\/out-of-the-rough-friday-24th-october-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Out of the Rough &#8211; Friday 7th November 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Top 3 things to Note this week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Check the local rules board before play<\/li>\n<li>Give generously to Legacy<\/li>\n<li>It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be Nice!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Digger\u2019s Day 2025!<br \/><\/strong>Saturday 8<sup>th<\/sup> November is Digger\u2019s Day, and a chance for everyone to enjoy a fun day of golf, while helping to raise valuable funds for Legacy.<\/p>\n<p>The Digger\u2019s Day raffle tickets are available at the Bar for $2 each or 3 for $5.\u00a0 Prizes include a Callaway golf bag and hats, kindly donated by Josh Leggo and Callaway; games of golf at other courses; golf lessons with our in-house golf professionals, and more great stuff!<br \/>On Digger\u2019s Day, there will be additional novelty events (NTP, Accuracy drives and a special Legacy Superpin).\u00a0 Cost will be $25, for every player, and it will cover all the additional events.\u00a0 The Services Trophy is open to all Current and Ex-Services people, but you must identify what service you are\/were associated with, when you register at the Pro Shop on the day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2025 Club Champions<br \/><\/strong>The 2025 Club Championships have seen their final round played and as expected, there was some fantastic golf played across all the grades.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time in the Club\u2019s history, we have a Lady member winning in not only one grade, but two grades.\u00a0 This is a milestone for the club as we celebrate our Club Championships and equality of membership.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 Club Champion is Matt Thompson!\u00a0 There was a late charge from Josh Leggo, but Matt\u2019s initial lead was too strong, and he easily claimed the victory by 9 shots, with a total of 280.\u00a0 Matt was also the Nett winner, by one shot over Josh Leggo.<\/p>\n<p>A Reserve saw a mix of activity across the final round, but Sue Kim made the most of her third-round lead and eventually increased it to 6, to take the title over Sean Bergan.\u00a0 Sean temporarily took the lead with 9 holes to play, but Sue rose to the challenge and closed out the title with some impressive scoring over the final holes for a total of 304.\u00a0 Sue also won the Nett event over Sean.<\/p>\n<p>In B Grade, third round leader, Brad Mitchell held his nerve over the course of the day, to eventually take the title by 3 shots over Alan Hart.\u00a0 Brad\u2019s 4 round total was 334, holding off a charge from multiple players over the day.\u00a0 Chuck Norris was the Nett winner, by 2 shots over Seon Kim.<\/p>\n<p>C Grade was one-way traffic, with Naomi Kim leading from start to finish.\u00a0 Naomi kept her cool and produced another great round, to eventually win the title by 12 shots with a total of 362, over Chris Butt. Bunkers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your ball is in a bunker when any part of it touches sand on the ground inside the edge of the bunker, or on ground where sand would normally be, or in or on a loose impediment, movable obstruction, abnormal course condition, or integral object in the bunker.<\/p>\n<p>Before playing your ball in a bunker, you may remove loose impediments (such as leaves, sticks, stones, and loose grass).<\/p>\n<p>Before making a stroke at your ball in a bunker, you must not deliberately touch sand in the bunker with your hand, a club or rake or any other object to test the condition of the sand.<\/p>\n<p>You must not touch the sand in the bunker with your club, in the area in front or right behind your ball, or in making a practice swing, or in your backswing when making a stroke.<\/p>\n<p>You are allowed to dig in with your feet to take a stance, smooth the bunker to care for the course, place your clubs or other equipment in the bunker, or lean on a club to rest or prevent a fall.<\/p>\n<p>If any of your actions in touching the sand improve the conditions affecting your stroke, you incur the General Penalty (2 strokes, or loss of hole in match consolidation and movement.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In A Grade, Matt Thompson continued his dominance of the event and will go into the final round with a 10-stroke lead over Josh Leggo.\u00a0 Josh drew 3 shots back in the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> round, so can he rein in the rest and make for a simply nail-biting finale.<\/p>\n<p>Matt also has a strong lead in the Seniors Championship, with 20-shots between him and the pack.\u00a0 We are not sure what the record difference is, but this is surely setting a cracking standard.<\/p>\n<p>A Reserve sees Sue Kim taking a 1-shot lead over Daniel Lowe, into the final round.\u00a0 Sue is fresh from winning the Ladies Championships during the week, and would love to add this Club title to her honour role.\u00a0 There are some strong contenders only a few shots back, so the final round will surely produce an entertaining finish.<\/p>\n<p>In B Grade, Brad Mitchell consolidated his lead and now has an outright lead by 3 shots over a pack of players.\u00a0 That pack is 8 players, all within 3-shots of each other, so there is a large pool to make a late run for the title.<\/p>\n<p>In C Grade, Naomi Kim takes a 9-shot lead over Phil Pearce into the final round.\u00a0 Naomi has had the lead from the 1<sup>st<\/sup> round and is determined to add her name to the honour board.<\/p>\n<p>In the Junior Championship, Justin Hadi had an impressive 1 over par in the third round to overtake Sean Bergan and take a 2-shot lead into the final round.<\/p>\n<p>We wish all the competitors the best of luck for the final round.<\/p>\n<p>Members are all invited to come out and watch the final round and help celebrate the respective Champions at the end of the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Melbourne Cup<br \/><\/strong><strong>Join us for Melbourne Cup Book and pay at the office.\u00a0 If anyone is looking for a team, Pat Davidson is looking for a player to complete her team.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrate the race that stops the nation with a fun-filled day of golf, great food, and good company.<br \/>Our annual<strong> Melbourne Cup event<\/strong> will be held on <strong>Tuesday, 4th November<\/strong>, with all members and members guests welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Start the day with an <strong>8:00am shotgun start<\/strong>, then enjoy a <strong>delicious buffet lunch<\/strong>, <strong>sweeps<\/strong>, and all the excitement of <strong>the big race live on the big screen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$65 per person<\/strong> \u2013 includes golf and lunch.<\/p>\n<p>Get your team together, dress to impress, and make it a day to remember at Muirfield!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Update<br \/><\/strong>The rain did not really eventuate this week, so we are still seeing the dam level drop.\u00a0 We only received 12mm mid-week when we were supposed to get 20-30mm.\u00a0 The Club is continuing to buy water, to ensure we keep the course up to the expected standard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Works<\/strong><br \/>In the coming weeks, weather permitting, members will see some works started around the golf course.\u00a0 There will be additional GUR areas and turfing going on, so please follow any directional signage, and keep an eye out for workers on selected sites.<\/p>\n<p>The work program will involve the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>13<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 left side on the hill, to fix the bare and uneven ground<\/li>\n<li>4<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 pathway to the 5<sup>th<\/sup> tee, to fix the bare and uneven ground<\/li>\n<li>6<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 removal of the rubbish pile behind the green<\/li>\n<li>12<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 renovation of the ladies Magenta tee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Robotic Mowers<\/strong><br \/>Some members may have seen a demonstration on Wednesday morning, around the chipping green, of a small Husqvarna robotic mower.\u00a0 They are being used on golf courses all around the world with great results.\u00a0 The small demonstration on Wednesday has now led to a larger one being scheduled for a couple of weeks-time, where we will be using the mower for a few weeks.\u00a0 The trial will centre around a couple of fairways (yet to be decided which ones), so we will advise more details, when it has all been locked in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bunkers and Rakes<\/strong><br \/>Each Saturday, and especially during the Championships, the bunkers are raked before play.\u00a0 The attached photo was taken a couple of Saturdays ago, and shows the front right bunker on the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> hole.\u00a0 Obviously, a Full Playing Saturday Member left their bunker in this state. After a sudden death tie breaker Anne and Jill secured the Division 1 State Veterans Foursomes Championship title.<\/p>\n<p>Following the celebrations for the Division 1 winners, the Division 2 winners were announced and Muirfield did it again! Advice does not include the location of things on the course.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Have a great weekend, and happy golfing!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>**********************************************************************************************<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday 24th October 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Top 4 things to Note this week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Club Championships continue this weekend!<\/li>\n<li>Melbourne Cup bookings are now open<\/li>\n<li>Check the local rules board before play<\/li>\n<li>Respect other Members, on and off the golf course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Club Championships 2025 \u2013 halfway point!<br \/><\/strong>Week 2 of the Club Championships saw consolidation, and some fading hopes!\u00a0 Holding your nerve for 2, 3 and 4 rounds is not an easy task.<\/p>\n<p>In A Grade, Matt Thompson continued his good form, doubling down on his 1<sup>st<\/sup> round 5-under par, with a fine 1-under par, 68.\u00a0 Matt takes top spot and a 13-shot lead going into the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> round.\u00a0 Josh Leggo takes 2<sup>nd<\/sup> spot and leads a tight pack.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Matt is also leading the Seniors, by 20 shots and surely has his 6<sup>th<\/sup> title in a row, in his sights.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, in A Reserve, the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> round leader has had to withdraw from the event, due to personal reasons.\u00a0 This opens the competition right up and catapults Sue Kim into the lead position on 152.\u00a0 With only 1 shot separating Sue from Daniel Lowe in 2<sup>nd<\/sup> place, and the top 12 all within 9-shots, this title is certainly up for the taking.<\/p>\n<p>In B Grade, Brad Mitchell improved on his first-round score by 11 shots, to tie for the lead with Chuck Norris, on a total of 165.\u00a0 The duo are only 2 shots ahead of a pack of players, all with the ability to shoot a good score.\u00a0 With the top 12 players all within 7 shots, the B Grade title is not even close to being decided.<\/p>\n<p>In C Grade, Naomi Kim had an impressive 86 in her\u00a0 2<sup>nd<\/sup> round, to take her total to 176, and now holds a 10-shot lead over her nearest rival, Chris Butt.\u00a0 The years have shown that anything can happen in this grade and so all eyes will be watching as the next two rounds play out.<\/p>\n<p>In the Junior Championship, Sean Bergan now has a 5-shot lead over Jun Hui Kim and Justin Hadi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Respect for each Other<\/strong><br \/>With such a diverse membership, there are bound to be differences in demographics, culture, and ideologies.\u00a0 Questioning the integrity of other members is unbecoming of the type of member we want at Muirfield.\u00a0 Every member deserves to be able to enjoy their golf without being harassed.\u00a0 The senseless words and actions of some people, can leave long-lasting scars to others and even affect their ability to continue playing golf.\u00a0 Members are asked to refrain from sharing ill-informed thoughts, with other players.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Melbourne Cup<br \/><\/strong><strong>Join us for Melbourne Cup Day at Muirfield!<br \/><\/strong>Celebrate the race that stops the nation with a fun-filled day of golf, great food, and good company.<br \/>Our annual<strong> Melbourne Cup event<\/strong> will be held on <strong>Tuesday, 4th November<\/strong>, with all members and members guests welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Start the day with an <strong>8:00am shotgun start<\/strong>, then enjoy a <strong>delicious buffet lunch<\/strong>, <strong>sweeps<\/strong>, and all the excitement of <strong>the big race live on the big screen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$65 per person<\/strong> \u2013 includes golf and lunch.<\/p>\n<p>Get your team together, dress to impress, and make it a day to remember at Muirfield!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Update<br \/><\/strong>Weather!!\u00a0 The extreme weather changes that we have seen in the past week, certainly take a toll on the golf course.\u00a0 The hot and windy days deplete our water supply and create a lot of debris which the course staff clean up every morning.<\/p>\n<p>There is a lot more run on the golf course, as the dry conditions provide a hard surface.\u00a0 Players are asked to watch where their golf ball goes, as it can run another 10-20metres from where you think it may be, and therefore run into the rough or mulched areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Digger\u2019s Day 2025!<br \/><\/strong>Saturday 8<sup>th<\/sup> November is Digger\u2019s Day, and a chance for everyone to enjoy a fun day of golf, while helping to raise valuable funds for Legacy.<\/p>\n<p>A Digger\u2019s Day raffle is on offer over the coming weeks and tickets are available at the Bar for $2 each or 3 for $5.\u00a0 Prizes include Callaway gear, kindly donated by Josh Leggo and Callaway;
